Job Title: Programme Officer, Agribusiness

Location: Ibadan, Oyo State

Job description

A non-governmental organisation seeks a full-time Programme Officer, Agribusiness for its agribusiness desk that is the sustainability plan of the organisation. The successful candidate will be required to work from the organisation’s office and farm site(s) in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Only Ibadan-resident applicants will be considered.

The agribusiness department of the organisation addresses issues around value chain development for agribusiness actors and also runs its own facility where production of vegetables is on-going.

The candidate will be expected to provide general and operative support for the project by managing the farm and its operation; primarily crop production focused. He or she will also provide advisory insight into how to grow the project and coordinate human (farm workers, contract staff and third parties) and material resources to ensure timely delivery on targets and goals. In addition, the candidate will liaise with other Smallholder Farmers (SHFs) to fast track and smoothen designs for aggregation of vegetable with them. The Extension Agent will also be expected to embark on occasional travels for training and also provide technical and capacity strengthening support to the agribusiness clusters that we work with. The prospective candidate must be a good negotiator and be skilled in reducing production cost to ensure profit is maximised by the venture. The role requires willingness to travel within and outside the region at short notice.

We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented candidate, who is a proactive problem solver, excellent communicator (especially in Yoruba language) and team player. We are looking for a candidate who can work with little or no supervision and can excellently document processes and experiences on the job. We are looking for a bold candidate with street wisdom! A candidate with the ability to also share knowledge from his or her experience in vegetable production in a formal training setting is who we are looking for. He or she will report to the Programmes Manager.

Candidate Profile

  • A degree in agriculture is preferred with relevant field experience.
  • Fluency in English (average writing and verbal skills) is required. Proficiency in other languages, especially Yoruba is a plus.
  • Experience working on a farm in an administrative or technical role is desirable.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office suite and ownership of a personal computer is desirable and preferred.

Only Ibadan resident applicants will be considered for this role. The ideal candidate should preferable reside around Mokola, Dugbe or Sango axis of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Job description

A non governmetal organisation seeks; for its sustainability plan, a full-time Farmhand for strategic implementation of directives for sustainable production of  vegetables, Compost manure and other related task, on its agribusiness project site. The ideal candidate will be required to work majorly on the organisation’s project site(s) in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Ibadan resident applicants will only be considered for this role.

 

Duties

  • Execute directives on strategies for production of vegetables and compost manure through dedicated effort to ensure timely delivery on targets and goal.
  • Document all farm activities regularly
  • Document all expenses and file invoices of all official spending
  • Other task delegated by Onelife Initiative for Human Development’s management.

Requirements

  • Ordinary national diploma at most, in agronomy, agricultural science or any other related field from a reputable Institution in Nigeria
  • At least a year of hands-on experience in farming activities
  • The candidate should possess real passion for farming, physically resilient with proven organizational skills
  • Excellent communication (preferably in Yoruba) and reporting skills.

Only Ibadan resident applicants will be considered for this role with preference to candidate from Mokola, Dugbe or Jericho axis.
